YES 4G free 10 GB Data for Customers until 19 Dec 2010

YTL & YES 4G SAY SORRY WITH 10GB OF FREE DATA FOR CUSTOMERS

In the past week or so, YTL's first foray into the mobile internet with voice market has been the talk of the town for both good reasons and bad. As we all know, Yes4G had quite the shaky start with the downtime of their website www.yes.my right from the get-go, irritating netizens who were trying to register for their ID's. There were also issues with people who pre-registered and were not given their ID's on time. From those haphazard early hours of the launch, the lucky few who did have their ID's reported blazing fast speeds which kept with YTL's promise to be 3-5x faster than 3G.

I stumbled across this while going to the Yes 4G page to check on my balance, it looks like YTL feels quite bad about the page downtime (as they should), and are working on restoring the site to it's optimum performance. For our troubles and frustration, YTLC CEO Wing Lee has announced that everyone on the Yes 4G network will be getting 10GB of data for FREE until December 19th 2010. That's about RM300 (before subsidies) worth of data absolutely free. The 10GB is also applicable for anyone who registers for a Yes ID from now until the 19th December 2010 and pre registered customers who activate their accounts until the 12th of December 2010.

This came as a surprise to me and a pleasant one at that, especially because I initially only bought RM30 of credit and was pretty worried it would run out very soon. I applaud YTL's effort to appease the internet lynch-mob which had formed in a matter of 7 days, instead of just ignoring the issues and retreating to their "safe place" to count the crap ton of money they are raking in.

So pick up your Yes 4G ID and equipment from their IT retail partners and the Yes Stores in Lot 10 and KL Sentral today and reap the benefits of free (albeit limited) internet today!

Dear Yes customers,

We started Yes with the determination to bring positive change to Malaysia. The response has been fantastic.

We realize the performance of our Yes website (www.yes.my) has impacted our ability to serve you online. And it is not up to our standard. We have been all-hands on deck to work with our operations partner, Cisco, to restore the service level of our website and to improve its performance.

While we are heartened by the strong response to pre-registration, the loading of a small percentage of pre-registered Yes IDs was inadvertently slowed down.

Yes 4G network and Yes services have been working smoothly. Many have said “yes” and are giving us positive reviews, validating our claim to deliver 3 – 5 times the speed of 3G.

We value the trust you’ve given us and have decided that our early adopters must be rewarded. This is what we are doing:

For all Yes customers registered before Dec 19th 2010:
  • We offer you complimentary data services, up to 10GB per Yes ID on our network, from the launch day until Dec 19th 2010. Data billing will begin on Dec 20th 2010. However, charges still apply for our Yes 018 telephony services (voice and SMS).

For all pre-registered customers only:
  • We will also extend the activation deadline until Dec 12th 2010. Those activated Yes IDs will be entitled to enjoy complimentary data services until Dec 19th 2010 as well.

Our IT retail partners (www.yes.my/itpartners) along with our Yes Stores in Lot 10 Shopping Centre and KL Sentral Station are looking forward to serving you.

We have said at our launch last Friday that as a new company we will learn and grow – and we will do so quickly. Our network team is actively expanding our coverage and we will update you along the way. Rest assured that we are fully committed to drive positive change. The journey has just begun.

Thank you for your support!

Best regards,

Your Friends at Yes
Wing K. Lee
